What is a Seller's Permit?

Most businesses are required to get a Seller's Permit if selling wholesale or retail or if wanting to buy wholesale.- Obtaining a Seller's Permit is a separate business tax registration type.

A Seller's Permit is also called a sales tax ID, reseller license, or wholesale ID among other names such as state ID etc.

The reason you need a seller's permit is that it enables you to collect sales tax when you sell retail and buy tax free when you buy wholesale.
